You will find Ingleside, Texas in the heart of the North Bay area of the south Texas Coastal Bend. Ingleside is located on the south-east tip of San Patricio County. As of 2000, Ingleside’s population was approximately 9,000. Ingleside is the place to be for your upcoming family vacation on the coast! Ingleside History

Ingleside’s earliest community began in 1854 when George C. Hatch purchased land on both sides of the bayou. He later acquired over 3,800 acres of land which he sold to Walter Ingalls and others. They built homes on the bayou and at Ingleside Cove.

In 1855, George and Marcellus Turner settled in the area. Marcellus obtained a grant for the first post office in 1857. Ingleside also soon established a general store and a boarding school. During this time Ingleside’s primary industries were farming and ranching.

In 1909 developers Burton and Danforth laid out the present Ingleside town site. In 1913 the Ingleside Common School District was formed, with 80 students. Growth in the area was stagnant after a hurricane destroyed many buildings in the town in 1916. Between 1910 and 1920, grape production was a booming industry.

In 1927, Humble Oil built a tank farm at Port Ingleside and announced plans for a refinery in Ingleside. Construction boomed with the building of a housing complex, complete with paved streets and their own sewer for Humble employees. Ingleside experienced a period of great growth and prosperity. The population quickly grew to approximately 1,000 people. During this period two local newspapers began publication. Unfortunately, Ingleside’s prosperity was shorted lived. In 1944 a labor dispute resulted in Humble closing the plant and put it up for sale. The Brauer Corporation opened an aluminum fabrication plant in 1948, and Reynolds Metal followed in 1950, opening a plant only five miles away. DuPont followed and a local plant was built in 1973. Ingleside developed primarily as a residential area and was officially incorporated in 1951.

In 1954, the Corps of Engineers cut a channel through Ingleside Point, thus demarking an area known as Ingleside-on-the-Bay, where the United States Navy intended to open its Homeport in 1995.

The population of Ingleside grew steadily after 1972 and in 2000 Ingleside had a population of 9,388, including 3,200 active duty naval personnel.

Ingleside Parks and Recreation

The Park and Recreation Department of Ingleside is dedicated to the preservation of Ingleside’s open spaces and beautiful park system. The department is committed to providing safe and clean recreation areas for community members and visitors to enjoy.

Cove Park
Cove Park is a five acre public park and is located between Ingleside on the Bay and the city of Ingleside. The park was built in 1991 and has two free lighted public boat ramps that offer boaters and fishermen a direct outlet into LaQuinta Channel and Corpus Christi Bay. Cove Park also features a small fishing pier, four shaded picnic areas and approximately one quarter-mile asphalt hike and bike trail. There is also a large grassy area in the middle of the park which is perfect for a pickup game of soccer or football.

N.O. Simmons Park
N.O. Simmons Park features a skate park, a hike/bike trail, seven soccer fields, a multi-use lighted field, a covered lighted basketball and sports court, and a lighted group pavilion with game tables and a barbeque area. There is also a toddler playground, a horseshoe pit, and a volleyball court is in the works.

Faith Park
Faith Park is a six acre park which includes the city’s swimming pool, the Hildegard Schmidt Garden Center, swings, benches, barbeque pits, Little League Fields and a basketball court.

Live Oak Park
Live Oak Park covers 90 beautiful oak covered acres in South Ingleside. The park features an 18-hole disc golf course, three lighted tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, a softball field, a playground, and miles of nature trails.

Oak Park
Oak Park is located on Eighth Street and is a semi-residential park that is tucked away under a grove of winding oak trees. Here you will find slides, swings, seesaws, rockers, tables, and benches within the park. This is an ideal park for small children to play or for families to enjoy a picnic under an abundance of shade.

Round Up Days Festival and Parade
The Round Up Days Festival features live entertainment, a parade, carnival, horseshoe contests, and country cook offs. This traditional festival dates all the way back to 1974 and was fashioned after the Great Cattle Round Up of the 1800’s. Come have a splendid time with your family and friends and participate in all the fun events this festival has to offer!

Enchanted Forest Renaissance Faire
Here at the Forest Renaissance Faire guests can participate in the folklore, crafts, and the history and magic of the distant times of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. Visit the craftsmen, merchants, cooks and artists for a great time. The Faire is a great way to celebrate the Renaissance.
